Exploring a Bizarre Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have encountered plenty of engaging indie games. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer features a protagonist that is truly a dung attempting to make its way to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is easy to grasp: you only need a single jump button. In 150 challenges, you'll face boss fights and visit a shop to purchase skins for your dung hero.

Plan your jumps carefully, as a error requires starting over. Bounce using bubbles to hurl your character upward, traverse disappearing ledges, and activate switches to reveal hidden paths. Collect currency for buying tougher stages in which things intensifies.

In terms of design, the demo shows off vibrant level designs and catchy music score. Its minimalist visual style with morphing geometric shapes may remind gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.

While it's difficult to name other games where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment often featured toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, players make explosives from protagonist excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as fertilizer. Naturally, such content is present heavily in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already earned notable recognition, such as taking top honors at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is available at present on Steam, with the final release set to debut on computers in the fall.
